13. Karlovy Vary – The most important Czech spa, it was founded by Charles IV and is famous for its 12 thermal springs and Becherovka, the locally produced herbal liqueur. A visit to the factory’s Becherovka Museum can be arranged, along with a chance to taste some of the factory’s output. Becherovka is said to be a good cure for upset stomachs.

14. Mariánské Lázně – This famous very well-equipped European spa was where Goethe wrote his ”Elegy from Mariánské Lázně” on his love for the much younger Ulrika von Levetzow towards the end of his life.
