Slovakia’s Natural Paradise and Historical Places

7-day tour


Day 1: Arrival in Brno or Bratislava

Arrival in Brno or Bratislava. After being welcomed by your guide, you’ll be able to settle into your accommodation. Then you'll go on a short sightseeing tour of the town by night and explore its narrow lanes.


Day 2: Brno/Bratislava – Trenčín – Vysoké Tatry (High Tatras)

After breakfast you'll travel to Trenčín, the region’s most famous medieval fortified town, where you’ll be shown round the castle and have a good lunch. After you cross the Carpathians, the monumental panorama of the High Tatras will open out before you. You’ll go on a guided tour of the most attractive parts of these ecologically very clean mountains. On arrival at your hotel, you’ll be able to settle into your accommodation and have dinner and a welcoming drink.


Day 3: Bratislava – Vysoké Tatry (High Tatras) – Panorama trip

After breakfast there’ll be a sightseeing tour of the Tatra National Park, including visits to Starý Smokovec, Štrbské Pleso and Tatranská Lomnica. You’ll see at first hand the smallest high mountains in the world and beautiful countryside. You’ll have an opportunity to go on a cable railway trip to Skalnaté Pleso (1705 m). From here you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of the valleys and the untamed mountain peaks. In the afternoon there’ll be a trip to the 500 year-old mountaineers’ village of Ždiar, famous for its wooden buildings. You’ll have dinner in a typical Slovak mountain chalet called Koliba ("Shepherd's Hut") with brandy, grilled Slovak specialities and wine, and there’ll be traditional music to put you in the right mood. In the evening you'll return to the hotel and stay there overnight.


Day 4: Vysoké Tatry (High Tatras) – Červený Kláštor raft trip – Stará L´ubovňa – Kežmarok – Vysoké Tatry (High Tatras)

Today you'll go on a trip to Červený Kláštor in the Pieniny Nature Park’s mountain range. After sightseeing at the Carthusian monastery, you’ll go on an entertaining raft trip down the River Danubets as far as Lesnica. During the return trip via Stará L´ubovňa you’ll visit the openair museum of folk architecture and the wooden Greek Orthodox church, one of the most important wooden church buildings in north-east Slovakia. You'll make a short stop in the town of Kežmarok, whose charter dates from 1269 and which is famous for its many Late Gothic churches and houses. You'll have dinner in the hotel and stay there overnight.


Day 5: Vysoké Tatry (High Tatras) – Levoča – Spiš Castle – Vysoké Tatry

During today's trip you'll see wonderful countryside, typical folk architecture and other sights, along with the famous 19m-high wooden Gothic altar sculpted by Master Pavel of Levoča in the 14th century St James’s Parish Church at Levoča, one of Slovakia’s oldest medieval towns. Then you'll visit the Spiš Castle. This was medieval Europe’s biggest defensive fortress as the extensive ruins of this originally early Slavonic fortress show. You'll have a splendid view from here of the small town of Spišské Podhradie and countryside which stretches as far as the High Tatras. After returning to your hotel, you'll have an opportunity in the afternoon to go on a trip to the mountain peak at Hrebienok . From there you can take a short walk through the Tatra National Park. You'll have dinner in the hotel and stay there overnight.


Day 6: Vysoké Tatry (High Tatras) – Nízké Tatry (Low Tatras) – Brno or Bratislava

After breakfast you'll leave the High Tatras and travel through the most picturesque pass in the Low Tatras to Banská Bystrica, getting a perfect view en route of the highest Dumbier and Chopok peaks. When you arrive in Banská Bystrica, one of Slovakia’s famous mining towns, you’ll notice that its splendid merchants’ and nobles’ houses have been rebuilt in Renaissance style. After a short sightseeing tour, you'll go to Bratislava or Brno for your last overnight stay. After arriving and settling into your hotel, you’ll have dinner at the hotel.


Day 7: Brno or Bratislava – departure

After breakfast you’ll begin your journey home.
